Takes some breaking in

My experience was a little different. I have arthritic feet and congestive heart failure, so my feet are intermittently swollen. Laced shoes that have some give are therefore a must. My feet are borderline wide as well, and these shoes are true to size regarding width, my feet don't flop around from side to side but there is a little wiggle room. Each shoe comes with three inserts - two flat pads and one fancy insert with arch support and a leather lining. Each insert is of a different thickness, which makes the shoes versatile because if your feet are relatively thin top to bottom, you can stack the inserts to create an ideal fit. My problem is that my feet are often quite fat, so even the fancy insert alone makes the shoes too tight, especially where the tongue meets the upper. This insert basically provides all of the arch support and most of the padding, so taking it out is not really an option either, although my feet are not as pinched when it is removed. Rather than be dismayed, I waited until my feet were relatively normal, and then wore these shoes exclusively for a week to break them in. My feet have now stretched them and flattened the insert to the point where I can wear them even when my feet are swollen. So for me there was a breaking in period, but admittedly my feet have special needs. The build quality is very good, durability seems good, styling isn't too bad considering I need Frankenstein shoes after 30 years of wearing slip-on rubber-soled Florsheims. All around, thumbs up and worth the price.

My problem is a small toe with a sensitve toenail that is squeezed and painful in most shoes. The high box of this shoe provides the toe room I need. I like this shoe so much I bought a brown pair, too.

Great Motion control. Laces don't untie themselves. About $20 more than what it replaced but worth it.

I purchased these for my husband. He has been complaining of heel pain so I thought these shoes might offer the arch support needed for beginning plantar fascitis. He put them on and immediately said they were the most comfortable shoes he has ever worn. There has been no break in time. I will definitely buy these again!
