durable but heavy

I bought the shoes in black leather as a gift for my elderly grandfather who suffers from arthritis . The shoes look sturdy, durable, and good quality. However, they are quite heavy, and the soil is kind of stiff, doesn't bend as much as I thought it would. The cushion under the heel could have been softer too. I know the shoes will be uncomfortable just for these reasons alone. Will try to exchange them for some other brand.
