Bunion Splint

If your big toe looks misshapen and protrudes from the side of your foot, you could have a bunion, a bony protrusion of the great toe joint that can cause friction and pain when wearing shoes. A bunion found on the outside of the foot on or below the fifth (or baby) toe, known as a bunionette, can also cause intense bunion pain.

A Bunion Splint Can Help Relieve Your Bunion Pain

Bunions are most commonly treated and prevented with some simple adjustments to your shoes, and by wearing a bunion splint.
Follow these steps to help alleviate bunion pain:
- Buy well-fitting shoes with a wide toe box.
- Utilize an orthotic device or insert, such as a bunion splint, to redistribute the pressure along the arch and ball of the foot and control the separation of the bones. A bunion splint helps support your foot and reduce the tendency toward bunion formation.
- Use a bunion regulator to stretch tight tendons and toe muscles overnight – especially if you want to avoid surgery.
In general, relief from bunion pain can be achieved by wearing better shoes and/or by using a bunion splint. In severe cases, a bunion splint may not be effective, and you may need to see a doctor to determine if corrective surgery is needed.
