Bunion Shield

Why should you use a bunion shield? For most people, relief from bunion pain can be achieved by wearing better shoes and/or by using a bunion shield.
A bunion is a bony protrusion of the great toe joint that can cause friction and pain when wearing shoes.
A bunion shield is the first method to provide you with bunion pain relief. In severe cases, when bunion pain is not relieved with a bunion shield, The Podiatry Institute suggests you see a doctor to determine if corrective surgery is needed.

Symptoms: Do You Have a Bunion?

Bunion pain and other symptoms show up in a variety of ways.
- The first and most obvious indication that you have a bunion: Has your big toe changed shape? Does it seem to be curving inward toward the other toes? If so, you most likely have a bunion.
- Other symptoms of bunion pain include swelling, redness or pain of the joint at the base of the big toe.

Relieve and Prevent Bunion Pain By Using a Bunion Shield

Bunions are most commonly treated and prevented with some simple adjustments to your shoes, including the use of a bunion shield. Follow these steps to help alleviate bunion pain:
- Buy well-fitting shoes with a wide toe box.
- Use a bunion shield to protect the bunion when wearing shoes. A bunion shield can be especially effective at relieving pressure on your bunion when walking.
- Utilize an orthotic device or insert, such as a bunion splint or bunion brace, to redistribute the pressure along the arch and ball of the foot and control the separation of the bones. These devices help support your foot and reduce the tendency toward bunion formation.
- Use a bunion regulator to stretch tight tendons and toe muscles overnight – especially if you want to avoid surgery.
