High Arch Feet? Find Relief at FootSmart
If you have a foot with a high arch, known medically as Pes Cavus, then you may be experiencing foot/ arch pain on a regular basis. A high arch can cause a variety of foot problems, from plantar fasciitis caused by overpronation when the arch is flexible, to corns, calluses and even lower back pain if your foot is rigid. People with a high arch are also at an increased risk for developing multiple stress fractures, and a long standing high arch can lead to the development of hammertoes. Determining if You Have a High Arch People with a high arch will notice a change in the appearance of his/her foot.
- A person with a high arch may note that his/her heel or toes seem to turn inward.
- Those with a high arch will see that the arch of their foot, that gap in the middle of the foot, will be higher than normal, with the front part of the foot dropping downward more dramatically than usual.
- In addition, a high arch will result in the first and fifth toes seeming lower as well.

| How to Help Treat a High Arch |
|
| Wearing shoes designed for wide and/or problem-prone feet, like adjustable shoes with hook-and-loop closures, can be a great way to relieve pain associated with a high arch. Wearing insoles and orthotics can also help ease the pain of a high arch.
In severe cases, surgery may be required to correct any problems associated with a high arch. If you have questions, FootSmart recommends you consult your doctor or podiatrist.
